A reflection on today's Sacred Scriptures:
Ourfirst reading today is about a dream King David's son, Solomon, had one night. God said, "Ask anything of Me and I will give it to you." Instead of gold or fame, Solomon asked God for "an understanding heart." God was so pleased that, along with that understanding heart, He made Solomon the wisest king that ever lived.
In today's Gospel, Jesus offers us for free, eternal life and eternal happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus uses wonderful examples that people can understand--a pearl of great price, buried treasure, and a rich catch of fish. How His listeners' eyes must have sparkled at His words!
If we choose, God will give us, too, an understanding heart, a wise heart that will help us to throw away anything sinful that could distract us from the Treasure of Grace that will help us to obtain that Kingdom. When God offers us a gift, He will always provide whatever is necessary for us to obtain it.
